It’s always a great idea to clean out your closet and let’s be honest; it’s most likely a task that has been long overdue. One thing I’ve learned is that simplifying all areas of your life in small ways can help you keep a clear mind, which in turn promotes productivity and increases creative flow. Makes sense, right? Here are some ways to declutter your closet to hopefully help balance out your headspace.
1.) If you haven’t worn it in three months, let it go – Yes of course, there are those few pieces that you only wear for specific occasions, which are the only exception. However if it is a casual piece that you could wear on a day-to-day basis and have not touched it in three months or more, it’s safe to realize that it is not a very useful item in your closet.

2.) Think before you buy – We’ve all been victims of impulsion taking over our logical and well-thought decisions. Practice being patient when deciding to buy a new article of clothing. If you really need it, you wouldn’t mind waiting at least three days to a week before purchasing it.

3.) Buy one, let one go – If you want to bring a new item into your closet, let another one go. This rule doesn’t always have to apply but it may be useful to keep yourself from hoarding or collecting an excessive amount of clothing. Recycle your clothes by taking it to a local thrift store (Buffalo Exchange, Salvation Army, Goodwill, Plato’s Closet, etc.)

4.) Practice the KonMari Method – Marie Kondo is a Japanese organizing consultant who has developed a unique and efficient method to tidying up. Here is a list of her steps on how to clean your room:
· Visualize your destination or your end goal
· Focus all of your energy to the task at hand
· Tidy by category, not by place
· Hold every item in your hands and ask ”Does it spark joy?”
· Discard that which does not spark joy
· Find a home for each item
· Pursue simplicity
